A very large imposing residence built in 1843 in gault brick, Flemish bonded 2-storey with a projecting, stone string, 4 window range, of 6 pane sashes with margin lights. Stone sills and gauged brick heads. Ground floor windows set in stone or stucco bays with segmented arches, entrance door set in one bay. Roof slate, hipped, with bold eaves and troughing. Three gault chimney stacks.
‘Grade 2 listed building being of Architectural and historic interest, the building had been occupied by the previous owners ‘British Red Cross’ as their regional headquarters to East Anglia. But was purchased by Chess Homeless in August 2016.
Many of the internal original features are retained.
Full Works, have over the period of the last year carried out an extensive and major refurbishment programme to this grand old building, First of all the existing electrics were completely stripped out of the property and then brand new re-wire taking was undertaken of the entire property along with the installation of new fuse boards to bring the property up- to current legislations and meet all compliancy matters.
Along with a full re-wire Full Works have installed a full smoke alarm system, a full fire alarm system, CCTV system, intruder and burglary system, mag locks to all doors and a full emergency lighting system within the property
The property has been updated and received planning permission to be converted into a night shelter on 2nd March 2017. Full Works begun a series of demolition works and knock throughs within the building to create a new layout as per the agreed plans. This was to create a fully occupied and working head office with open plan offices, meetings rooms and a boardroom along with fully functional hostel accommodation with a new commercial kitchen bedrooms and showers, refurbishment works that have taken place range from plastering, taking up and laying new floors, over boarding of ceilings, creating new openings from knock throughs, partitioning of areas, sound proofing and insulating all areas.
Full Works have also carried out all plumbing, heating, drainage, air conditioning, electrical and al general building works to create the following:
The current accommodation now contains 9 bedrooms, shower areas and toilet facilities (one large self-contained fully appointed DDA bedroom/wet room compliant) 3 private consultation areas, large administration office with 8 workstations, one boardroom / office, Commercial grade kitchen, lounge, and basement.
The project was both challenging and intriguing which came with many obstacles, Full Works have worked closely with the CEO and staff of CHESS over the past year to make this project work and to hand over an outstanding facility. Full Works now sponsors Chess at numerous events and have raised money for Chess at various Full Works charity days.
